Block Island Times

Pinball anyone?

To the Editor,

I’ve been traveling to Block Island since I was five years old (1958) and love it…my special place. I read with interest the article about Gary Pollard attempting to put in an arcade game room at the Empire. I’m a big fan of arcade/pinball games, owning several myself. When I travel to Block Island from my home in northwest Ohio, I always try to find some games to play. I’m never disappointed at The Yellow Kittens, having I think the only pinball machine on the island. Allowing an arcade is a great idea I think.

My kids, grand-kids, and friends love coming to my house for some good quality entertainment in my game room. Block Island has something for everyone but as pointed out in the article, kids and teens may not have enough to do and an arcade could help in that regard. Block Island is a family destination for so many people and anything to promote a family atmosphere should be explored. As Gary pointed out, noise should not be a factor. The machines are not that loud and have volume controls and can be set to any level needed.

I think approving an arcade is a good idea and why there is a prohibition of them is surprising.
